They came expecting to anoint a dead body. Instead, they found an empty tomb, folded grave clothes, and two angels declaring, “He is not here, but has risen.” In Luke 24:1–12, the women who had followed Jesus were the first to hear the resurrection news—and it was not what they expected.

In John 19:25–37, the Gospel writer gives us a deeply personal and eyewitness account of Jesus’ final moments. John stood at the foot of the cross. He saw the blood and water flow. He heard Christ’s final words and watched Him breathe His last.

📖 Expectations Meet RealityThe Triumphal Entry – Palm Sunday | Sunday of the PassionJohn 12:12–19
Have you ever had your expectations turned upside down? Maybe you thought the game would be an easy win—but it wasn’t. Maybe that meal looked great on the menu—but not so great on the plate. Maybe that photo your friend took—looked better before you saw it.
Palm Sunday is a moment when expectations collided with divine reality. The crowds expected a political liberator. What they got was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jesus entered Jerusalem not to claim a throne, but to embrace a cross. And in doing so, He fulfilled the mission that no one expected: to give His life for the life of the world.
Yet even after death, when the disciples expected grief, fear, and failure—what met them instead was the risen Christ. Peace, not panic. Life, not loss. Forgiveness, not fear.
