March 12, 2023. Divine Service. 8 A.M.
It turns out Jesus never did get His drink that day at the well. Did you notice that? He wasn’t really asking for a drink of water. He had much more than that in mind. He thirsted for much more, just as He did on the cross. His thirst was for you and me: to make you His bride; to give you His drink. All of this so that you know how precious and valuable you are–so that you know the gifts of God. All of this so that instead of hanging onto the things of this world and life that we think will quench our thirst, we repent, let go of all that, and cling to Him alone–to Him who clung to the cross and who clings to you in love. For, nothing else really matters. Not really. The things of this world, the people of this world, and the admiration and adulation of this world come and go, but the Word of the Lord stands forever. The Word of the Lord that was made flesh for you–your Savior, who gives you Himself and His living water–only He can satisfy your thirsty soul, which is the very thing He has come to do. ----- Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
