Sermon: Easier Said Than Done | Mark 10:23–31 | The Rich Young Man

The phrase, “Easier said than done” is said of a task that is easier to talk about than to do. We’ve been talking about the task of salvation. Last week we heard how the rich young ruler talked about how he had followed the commandments and how Jesus had exposed the fact that he didn’t actually do them.

Clearly the commandments are easier said than done. Today, Jesus takes it even further when He says, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” This leads the disciples to ask, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” Only God can save us and that is what He does in Christ. For with Jesus word and deed are one and the same. In other words, what Jesus says is done every time.
