Sermon: From Chaos to Order

Chaos is a gaping void; empty, immeasurable space, an abyss, or a state of utter confusion and disorder.  In Genesis, it was the void at the beginning of creation, the confused, formless, elementary state of the universe.  In the beginning God created the heavens and earth by filling the void with ordered life, created, shaped, and formed by the word of the Lord. 

But Adam and Eve’s rejection of the word of God in favor of the lie of the devil corrupted all of creation and brought confusion, disorder, and death into what God had made, a deep chasm that only God could fill.  So God sent Jesus into the world to fill the abyss generated by sin and death.

 This would be done by His taking our sin into Himself and overcoming it for us and for all creation in His death and resurrection. The temptation of Jesus is an attempt to stop Him.  But there’s no stopping Jesus who remains true to His word, as He fulfills the will of our Father in heaven to restore life and order to all of God’s creation.
