“Out of the depths I cry to you,” writes the psalmist. Trapped in the depths of sin and death, we become painfully aware that we cannot save ourselves. Yet when out of the depths of despair, we cry out to the Lord, our Father in heaven hears our cry. He, who sent Jesus into the depths of our sin and death, reaches down His hand in Christ to lift us up to new life with Him and each other.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. There are days when our lives seem so cracked and broken. Paul puts it this way, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” We carry around Jesus’ death. Perhaps you are thinking what in the world does this even mean? Because I carry Jesus’ death around with me, you cannot kill me. Not ultimately anyway. Because I carry Jesus’ death around with me, you can knock me down but not out; you can throw me into the deepest pit, but I will never be abandoned; you can do your level worst to me, but I have the security that makes me rise above it all. I carry around with me the worst thing that ever happened to anyone anywhere, the death of God’s own Son on a tree.
So, the worst you can do to me still is not as bad as what happened to Jesus. I am baptized into Christ! Nothing will separate me from His love not even death! You are in Christ Jesus, and you will live! As the hymn writer put it: “In Thine arms I rest me; Foes who would molest me Cannot reach me here, Though the earth be shaking, Every heart be quaking, Jesus calms my fear. Lightings flash and thunders crash; Yet, though sin and hell assail me, Jesus will not fail me! Hence, all fear and sadness! For the Lord of gladness, Jesus enters in.
Those who love the father, Though the storms may gather, Still have peace within. Yes, whate’er I must bear, Thou art still my purest pleasure, Jesus priceless treasure!” LSB #743-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. While the mystery of the Trinity is incomprehensible to us, so is God’s love for us in Christ. Something that is incomprehensible is puzzling, unfathomable, beyond our ability to grasp. It is truly beyond our understanding that God would love the very people who destroyed everything He made. It is baffling that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16), but it’s true.

“Son of Man, can these bones live?” That’s the question, isn’t it? Whether you’re standing in a valley of dry, dead bones, or in a cemetery, or when you’re standing at the bed side of a loved one who has just died. Is there any hope for life in the midst of sin and death? Jesus has answered that question for us once and for all! Jesus is the Son of God who became the Son of Man, to come and give us life again. Everywhere Jesus went there was life. Sinners forgiven, the diseased healed, lepers cleansed, the blind given sight, the deaf given hearing, the mute given voice, the paralyzed walking again, the demon-possessed restored, and the dead raised. Jesus came and entered those voids of sin and death and grave that are our creation, to give us an answer to that question once and for all. “Son of Man, can these bones live?” Easter is God’s resounding yes! Yes, these dry, dead bones can live.
For in Jesus’ resurrection, we see there is One who has atoned for our sin, who defeated death, and who conquered the grave. And because He did, He is able to do the same for you. To pull you out of the void. To forgive your sins. To give you comfort and hope. To give you life. And not only on the last day, but already here and now. For Ezekiel’s vision was of the whole house of Israel, and that includes you. And so yes, for you too, your tired, old, dry, dead bones can live!-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
