“Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” (Isaiah 50:10) You know how it turned out for that father; you know how it turned out with Jesus’ resurrection. Do you think it will be any different for you, O you of little faith? Even if things get dark for a while, all things are possible for one who believes, for all things are possible for the one we believe in. Jesus was dead, but now is alive. Is the evil one throwing you into the fire and water to try to destroy you?
Do not worry - Jesus beat him to it! John the Baptist said it: He who is coming after me is mightier than I . . . He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit (water) and fire (John 3:11). And He has! You are baptized into Jesus’ death and resurrection to destroy the sin in you and give you a new life (Romans 6). His life. A forgiven life. A life that neither sin, death, nor devil can end. That when your body becomes a corpse, maybe for a long time, Jesus will then come and take you by the hand and lift you up, too. To a life where no evil, no darkness, can ever enter again.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. An impediment is a hinderance or obstruction in doing something. The issue with the man they brought to Jesus was that there was a barrier that prevented him from hearing and speaking plainly. While most of us don’t have a problem with physical hearing or speaking, we do face obstacles when it comes to listening the Word of God and expressing it plainly. It is why you were brought here, to the Lord in His Church, by those who care about you.
They were literally led by the Spirit of God to bring you to Jesus, and you now do the same for others. For even today, Jesus is present among us to remove our impediments to hearing His Word and to conveying it plainly to others.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Jesus comes from outside of us - from heaven’s high throne and He comes to be one of us, incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary. He is made man. He breaks into our broken world - breathes our poisoned air and brings with him all of the righteousness and holiness of God, for that is who He is. He takes all of your sin that flows from an unclean sin-clogged heart and answers for it.
Dies with it. Forgives it and doesn’t hold it against you. Because it all belongs to Him! He is the slain Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! With His bloody forgiveness put in your ears and hearts you are restored to God! Purified! Cleansed! When the Father looks at you He sees you covered in the blood of His Son you Savior, Jesus. The blood of Jesus washed your heart clean in Holy Baptism.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. A tradition is the transmission of customs or beliefs from one generation to the next. The true tradition of the church is the Gospel and all proper practices or traditions in the church teach the Gospel. For example, I was never officially taught to sing hymns as a young child.
This was a tradition passed along to me. I just watched my parents and brothers open their hymnals and sing, and I followed their lead. I distinctly remember reflecting on this in church one Sunday as a little boy. I can even tell you which pew I was sitting in at Our Savior Lutheran Church. I remember thinking that this was the only place at that point in my life where I sang anything. The hymns that I sang taught me the Word of God as they confessed the readings and sermon of that day.
Traditions such as singing hymns that confess the word of God are godly traditions since they focus on what Jesus has done and continues to do for the life of the world, for the life of you and me.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. St. Paul exhorts us to not be deceived by the empty words and things of the world but be filled with the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit sings! Learn how singing is a part of who we are as the children of God, and why all theology finds its true home in praise to God and love for one another.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Jesus says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.” This is indeed good news! Imagine if that news got out into our community. We have a bread here in this place that brings eternal life, a cure for death, a bread that has the power to raise you to life from death.
Well, the demand would be overwhelming. The crowds here at Trinity Lutheran Church would rival the crowds at major sporting events. People would be lining up for this bread for miles - trying to break down our doors to get it. People would be bringing their children and friends from miles to get this living bread from heaven. This is exactly what happens each Lord’s Day here in this place.
Jesus gives us His very body and blood in, with and under bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins life and salvation! What else can we do but sing, “Thank the Lord and sing His praise tell everyone what He has done!”-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
