You are baptized into Jesus’ death and resurrection to destroy the sin in you and give you a new life (Romans 6). His life. A forgiven life. A life that neither sin, death, nor devil can end. That when your body becomes a corpse, maybe for a long time, Jesus will then come and take you by the hand and lift you up, too. A tradition is the transmission of customs or beliefs from one generation to the next. The true tradition of the church is the Gospel and all proper practices or traditions in the church teach the Gospel. For example, I was never officially taught to sing hymns as a young child. 
This was a tradition passed along to me. I just watched my parents and brothers open their hymnals and sing, and I followed their lead. I distinctly remember reflecting on this in church one Sunday as a little boy. I can even tell you which pew I was sitting in at Our Savior Lutheran Church. I remember thinking that this was the only place at that point in my life where I sang anything. The hymns that I sang taught me the Word of God as they confessed the readings and sermon of that day.

Jesus says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.” This is indeed good news! Imagine if that news got out into our community. We have a bread here in this place that brings eternal life, a cure for death, a bread that has the power to raise you to life from death. 
Well, the demand would be overwhelming. The crowds here at Trinity Lutheran Church would rival the crowds at major sporting events. People would be lining up for this bread for miles - trying to break down our doors to get it. People would be bringing their children and friends from miles to get this living bread from heaven. This is exactly what happens each Lord’s Day here in this place. 
Jesus gives us His very body and blood in, with and under bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins life and salvation!
