Our Savior who in His incarnation became one flesh with us, so that through His death and resurrection He might make us one flesh with Him. On the cross He spoke His marriage vow to us, His sacred “I will,” as He laid down His life for His bride. Just as a tree broke that first marriage in Paradise, so a tree has restored marriage – our relationship with God. In Christ, we are washed clean and made holy in the forgiveness of our sins.
And this vow our Savior did not only make once – once for all on the cross, and then once for me and you in Holy Baptism. Not only then, but He also renews His vows to us His vows of forgiveness, life, and salvation – every time we gather here at His altar, taking us in His arms in the Absolution, and giving us His body and blood in His Supper. Here delighting in us, as He makes us His own.
Never tiring of receiving us. Never tiring of forgiving us. We brides who come as black as sin and leave as white as snow. For the Son came from the Father and holds fast to His wife, His Church.

Today, we thank God for His angels. Those fighters, messengers, and worshipers God sends to help us. But do not thank them for their service they do not want your thanks. They want you only to thank the one who created them and you, and who, as we prayed earlier: ordained and constituted the service of angels and men in a wonderful order. Thank and praise the one who came and fought for you on the cross and died for you, that you who die might live forever. The angels are the Secret Service and want to stay that way.
For it is Jesus who saves you, not them. It is Jesus who died for you, not them. It is Jesus they proclaim and want proclaimed, not them. Today we gather around the altar with the angels, join their hymn of praise, and we will receive the body and blood of Jesus, and His victory over the steely cages of sin and death.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Are you ever afraid to ask someone a question? If you are, it’s probably because you expect it to be an answer you don’t like. Maybe it’s a question like, “How did I do on that test?” Or “What are the results of the PET Scan?” You’re afraid to ask because you’re afraid of the answer.
Today we hear Jesus reveal to His disciples that He is going to be handed over to the authorities, and that they’re going to kill him. “And when he is killed,” Jesus says, “after three days he will rise.” “The disciples did not understand the saying and were afraid to ask him.” But why?
Was it because they didn’t want Him to know that they didn’t understand? Or was it because they were afraid of what that would mean not only for Jesus, but for them?-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. “Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” (Isaiah 50:10) You know how it turned out for that father; you know how it turned out with Jesus’ resurrection. Do you think it will be any different for you, O you of little faith? Even if things get dark for a while, all things are possible for one who believes, for all things are possible for the one we believe in. Jesus was dead, but now is alive. Is the evil one throwing you into the fire and water to try to destroy you?
Do not worry - Jesus beat him to it! John the Baptist said it: He who is coming after me is mightier than I . . . He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit (water) and fire (John 3:11). And He has! You are baptized into Jesus’ death and resurrection to destroy the sin in you and give you a new life (Romans 6). His life. A forgiven life. A life that neither sin, death, nor devil can end. That when your body becomes a corpse, maybe for a long time, Jesus will then come and take you by the hand and lift you up, too. To a life where no evil, no darkness, can ever enter again.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
