Bible Study: Stay Awake!

Wednesday Nov 23, 2022

Wednesday Nov 23, 2022

The Lord Jesus enters Jerusalem “humble, and mounted on a donkey,” riding on “a beast of burden” (Matt. 21:5), as He Himself bears the sins of the world in His body. Now He comes by the ministry of the Gospel to save us from sin, death, the devil and hell. Therefore, we sing, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Matt. 21:9). For we are called “to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob,” His Holy Church, “that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths” (Is. 2:3). By His Word, we “walk in the light of the LORD” (Is. 2:5). That is to live in love, which “does no wrong to a neighbor” (Rom. 13:10). We “cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light,” for “salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed” (Rom. 13:11, 12). Hence, the entire Christian life is a time to wake and watch, “for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matt. 24:42).Support the show-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Sermon: Being Remembered

Sunday Nov 20, 2022

Sunday Nov 20, 2022

Today you will be with me in paradise.” Why is that the promise given us on this Sunday, the last Sunday of the Church’s year? Why this gospel on this day? That promise is the hinge between the ending of this liturgical year and the beginning of the next. It stands between the crucifixion and the nativity, the falling of the temple from last week’s gospel and the return of Christ in next week’s gospel. Ultimately, though it is the promise that joins the many different endings in our lives with a new beginning. In Christ’s eyes we are never forgotten and dis-membered. We are forever and always re-membered. “Today you will be with me in paradise” is Jesus’ promise to each one of us, this day and every day.Support the show-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. The prophet addresses the complaint and temptation of many Christians: “What point is there in being faithful to the Lord? We suffer, but the arrogant and proud unbelievers prosper!” Let us renounce all such thoughts. Though we may suffer in this life as Christ’s faithful Christians, there will be a day in which we who have hoped in Christ will be vindicated. Christ’s suffering is the source of an eternal life with God in Christ. Shall we, therefore, spurn suffering in our own lives for the sake of Christ? By no means. Colossians 1:13-20: Christ is confessed to be the Father’s faithful Son. He redeemed us by His blood and He is the head of all things for the sake of His Church. He has made peace with God for us by the blood of His cross. Luke 23:27-43: This year, the last Sunday in the Church Year presents a scene from the Passion of Our Lord that is often neglected: the daughters of Jerusalem mourn, weep, and lament as Jesus carries His cross to Calvary. As we look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of the Church Year, we remember that He is “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” by virtue of His suffering and death upon the cross. It is precisely in His suffering and death that He inaugurated His kingdom. When He comes again in glory, His body will still bear the marks of His suffering in His hands and His side. The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world is always and eternally at the center of our faith and worship. The highest worship of God in this life is to mourn and lament one’s sin in true contrition and repentance and to long to hear and receive His Word of absolution. Indeed, in this portion of the Passion, Jesus prays for those who crucified Him, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” His prayer upon the cross foreshadowed how He continues to intercede for us in heaven until His Second Coming. On the day of His return, we shall hear Him say to us the same thing that He said to the malefactor who hung next to Him: “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”Support the show-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. The late singer songwriter John Denver wrote in one of his songs, “Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.” The prophet Malachi also wrote about the sun, but the sun he wrote about was and is the sun of righteousness, a reference to the Christ and His coming at the end of time. When He comes, He “shall rise on the arrogant and the evildoers” and “make them cry,” “for they shall be set ablaze.” But “for those who fear the name of the Lord, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in His wings.”-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.  There are signs of the Lord’s coming all around: the cross that marks His Church, the violence and death of the sinful world, and the shaking of the natural order. “There will be great distress upon the earth” (Luke 21:23), but the faithful know that “the kingdom of God is near” (Luke 21:31). Therefore, “straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28). Be awake and alert, and heed the words of Christ, which “will not pass away” (Luke 21:33). For you, “the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings” (Mal. 4:2). He sends His preachers of repentance in the spirit and power of Elijah “before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes” (Mal. 4:5), in order to “direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ” (2 Thess. 3:5). Although you are often faithless, “the Lord is faithful,” and by the preaching of His Word “he will establish you and guard you against the evil one” (2 Thess. 3:3). Therefore, “do not grow weary in doing good” (2 Thess. 3:13). In the midst of calamity, believe upon the Lord, Jesus Christ.-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Sermon: True Blessedness!

Sunday Nov 06, 2022

Sunday Nov 06, 2022

All Saints Day is good not only for us to rejoice with those who are in heaven, but to comfort us who mourn. Our All Saints celebration is a day to re-orient our hearts and minds on things above with all the heavenly host who are with Jesus for all eternity. All Saints Day sets our faith compass back to true north. All Saints Day sets our minds on things above, on things that last beyond this world and life. And that blessedness is not what we do or what we have, but what God does for us in Jesus. Jesus is not only the one who blesses, He is the blessed one, and the very embodiment of the Beatitudes. All that we are He becomes, so that all that He is be given to us. We are blessed not so much with what He gives, but as He gives Himself to us. -----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Bible Study: True Blessedness!

Thursday Nov 03, 2022

Thursday Nov 03, 2022

“A great multitude … from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,” cry out, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne” (Rev. 7:9–17). Faith-filled saints from every place and time, with unified voices, eternally magnify the Lamb of God. As His beloved children, we, too, “shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:1–3). Joined with the throng of angels and a myriad of saints, we shall “serve him day and night in his temple” (Rev. 7:9–17). In our earthly tension vacillating between saint and sinner, faith and doubt, sacred and profane, we earnestly seek Jesus to calm our fears, comfort our spirits and forgive our sins. The Holy Spirit through faith in Christ propels us forward, fortifying us in Word and Sacrament, to our eternal home. In the midst of our constant struggle as believers, we need to be blessed. And so we are. The poor in spirit, the meek, the hungry, the thirsty, the merciful, the pure and the persecuted are all blessed, and we will most certainly inherit the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:1–12).-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. “He said with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come.’” “The hour of His judgment has come,” that’s the Gospel? That’s good news? It sounds more like the bad news of cancel culture. Here’s the difference. The eternal Gospel to proclaim is that the judgment of God that we deserve has already been taken by Jesus in His death on the cross. It’s all on Him! He received the death penalty for our sin in our place so that in Him we are declared righteous. This is the eternal Gospel proclaimed both by angels with wings and without “to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people.”-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. “Wisdom is justified by her deeds” (Matt. 11:19), and the true Wisdom of God, Christ Jesus, the incarnate Son, justifies us by His deeds. He prepares His way by the preaching of repentance, but He has suffered the violence of the Law and voluntarily handed Himself over to violent men, that we might eat and drink with Him in His kingdom and “remain in the house forever” (John 8:35). For He is “a friend of tax collectors and sinners” (Matt. 11:19), and He has rescued us by His grace from the slavery of sin and death. By the proclamation of His eternal Gospel “to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people” (Rev. 14:6), “the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law” (Rom. 3:21), “that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (Rom. 3:26). And by hearing the Gospel of Christ Jesus, “whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith” (Rom. 3:25), “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).------------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
