Just as Jesus left the ninety-nine in Israel and went to the country of the Gerasenes to save this one man, so also, He left His throne in heaven to come down and save us. All of us, who, since the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden have been under the oppression of the evil one, captive to sin, and lost. He enters this world of sin and death and graves that we live in to set us free and to give us hope. He is the stronger man who has come to bind the strong man who has bound us (Matthew 12). And the enemy of your enemy isn’t just your friend, He is your Savior. For Jesus didn’t just enter our world of sin and death and grave, He actually entered our sin and death and graves themselves, in order to destroy them and their grip on us in His resurrection, to set us free and to give us life again.Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. “Who do you make yourself out to be?” (John 8:53b). It’s one of the questions Jesus was asked when He said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death” (John 8:51). The same question could be asked of you and me who make all sorts of claims about ourselves, “Who do you make yourself out to be?”  Jesus’ final answer to their questions was this, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58).  In other words what He is saying is this, “I am God, the second person of the Holy Trinity who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”  He asserts that He is indeed greater than Abraham and the prophets. He’s not the one who dishonors God, they are. They dishonor God by claiming to know God while rejecting Jesus.  So Jesus sets the record straight, “If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word” John 8:55b).   So, what are they lying about?  What are we lying about?  Who do you make yourself out to be?”  #BibleStudy #LCMS #HolyTrinity #Lutheran #Trinity #3in1 #Podcast----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. The divine Word of the Father also is the holy wisdom who “was beside him, like a master workman,” who “was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always” (Prov. 8:30). This Word became flesh and suffered death in order to bestow life by the preaching of His Gospel “to the children of man” (Prov. 8:4). He honors the Father, and the Father glorifies Him by raising Him from the dead, so that all who keep His Word “will never see death” (John 8:51). Long ago, “father Abraham rejoiced” in the day of Christ, for “he saw it and was glad” (John 8:56). Though Christ was “crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men,” “God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death” (Acts 2:23, 24). As He “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:33), so it is by and through the Son that God the Father pours out the Holy Spirit upon His Church.#BibleStudy #LCMS #HolyTrinity #Lutheran #Trinity #3in1 #Podcast----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. The sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was life-changing event.  It was a milestone!  Pentecost changed the lives of the twelve apostles. The mighty rushing wind, the tongues of fire, and then they began to speak in other tongues, other languages. In fact, everyone heard them speaking in his own native language, undoing the confusion of the Tower of Babel. The Spirit brought to the apostles’ remembrance all that Jesus had said to them, and they proclaimed it. It turned them from learners into preachers. And everyone was looking at them - some marveling and some mocking. But clearly their lives had changed. Nothing was going to be the same again. And then there were the 3,000 that were baptized that day, and more after that. Pentecost was truly a life and world-changing event. The Holy Spirit that was poured out on that first Pentecost wasn’t just poured out that day - it is a pouring out that started on that day and hasn’t stopped since. That first Pentecost the Holy Spirit was poured out through the means of the mighty rushing wind and the tongues of fire. But after that He was poured out through the preaching of the Word and the water of Baptism that changes your life forever. Wherever Jesus as Savior is preached, the Holy Spirit is working. Wherever the water of Baptism is poured out in the name of the triune God, the Holy Spirit is being poured out in that water. Changing lives. Creating faith in Jesus. Making children of God. Forgiving sins. And bestowing the gifts of peace and hope and holiness. Pentecost is a milestone!----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Following the flood, Noah’s descendants failed to spread out and fill the earth as God had spoken. Rather, they exalted themselves; with “one language and the same words” (Gen. 11:1), they spoke proudly and arrogantly. The Lord humbled them by confusing “the language of all the earth,” dividing and dispersing the people (Gen. 11:9). That dispersal was reversed on Pentecost Day (the 50th day of Easter), when God caused the one Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to be preached in a multitude of languages. “At this sound the multitude came together” (Acts 2:6), for the preaching of Christ is the primary work of the Holy Spirit, whereby He gathers people from all nations into one Church. The Holy Spirit teaches and brings to our remembrance the words of Jesus, which are the words of the Father who sent Him. These words bestow forgiveness and peace to those who keep and hold on to them in love for Jesus. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. We get to know one another through words.  Words not only have meaning but also give meaning to our conversations.  Likewise, we learn about God and His love for us in Christ through words, His words that, unlike ours, give and bestow what they say. The Lord’s words bring us into His presence, embrace us with His love, and give us the goodness of His life and peace.  It is how we and others not only get to know Him, but also how we intimately relate to Him as His bride, the church.  Furthermore, it is how we as a church go about making known the love of Christ.  We read, hear, sing, and pray His words so that as Jesus says, “we may become perfectly one.”---- Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. On the night when He was betrayed, Jesus interceded for His Church — for His apostles and all who believe in Him through their word — that all of His disciples “may become perfectly one” in the Father and the Son (John 17:21–23). For Jesus became flesh and dwells among us in order to reveal the Father and His name, to share with us the glory of His righteousness, and to bring us to the Father in Himself. As the Father loved the Son from “before the foundation of the world” (John 17:24), so He loves the whole world (John 17:23, 26). Through the apostolic witness to the Baptism, cross and resurrection of Jesus (Acts 1:21–22), the Lord gathers His disciples throughout the world “with one accord” as one body in Christ (Acts 1:14). And so with one voice and by one Spirit, His Bride prays, “Come” (Rev. 22:17). And He comes to us. He gives us “the water of life without price” to wash our robes and quench our thirst (Rev. 22:17); He feeds us from “the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit” (Rev. 22:2).‐-----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. The Gift of Prayer

Monday May 23, 2022

Monday May 23, 2022

We, naturally enough regard prayer as something that we do for God by engaging in conversation with Him.  Jesus turns that around and tells us that prayer is His gift to us, a gift that involves all three persons of the Holy Trinity. Recording the week of March 17, 2021.-----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. But how often does it seem that the world is overcoming Christians? Is overcoming the Church? Well, it seemed that way on the cross, too. It seemed that way when your friend and Savior was sealed in a tomb. Yet it’s true, what Jesus said. His resurrection proved it. He did overcome everything that the world and hell could throw at Him. But our prayers in this world and life come from Gethsemane, not from glory. From tribulation, not from victory. Not yet, for us. But that’s why we pray. Because we’re children who need help. Because others need help. And we have a Father who has promised to give us what we ask for. Maybe it won’t be the way we think, maybe it won’t be when we think, maybe it won’t even be on this side of eternity. But His promise is true. As true as the empty tomb. Remember what Jesus said to Thomas the Sunday after His resurrection, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).-----Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
