We must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it” (Hebrews 2:1). What we have heard is the Word of God. The Word spoken to us by God through His prophets, apostles, and evangelists. We must pay closer attention to it. For if we do not, if we are not tethered to it, if the Word of God is not on our minds and in our hearts, if the Word of God is not our anchor holding us fast . . . then we will drift away from it and float aimlessly away God and each other. Moored to the Word of God, we have access to a love that never fails and a life with God and each other that never ends. ---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Humanity is created in the image and likeness of God. “It is not good that the man should be alone” (Gen. 2:18). For the Lord Himself is a perfect communion of three Persons — the Father, Son and Holy Spirit — in one God. Therefore, “the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs,” which “he made into a woman” and brought “to the man” (Gen. 2:21–22). It is for this reason that “a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Gen. 2:24; Mark 10:7). This great mystery of holy marriage signifies Christ Jesus, the incarnate Son of God, and His Bride, the Church. Divorce and all manner of adultery contradict and undermine this sign, and in doing so, they confess a false Christ and a false gospel. “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mark 10:9). In truth, Christ Jesus has atoned for all such sins, and He has perfected marriage in Himself “through suffering,” that He might bring “many sons to glory” in His resurrection (Heb. 2:8–10).---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. What is the very best thing you can do for others? How about this – pray for them. By praying for people in need, you give them God’s help, rather than human help. You give God's grace and nothing but His grace. Everything else we do is tainted by the evil in us, but not prayer. Any other help, no matter how generous, puts down those who are helped and leaves them in debt to the one who has helped them. But not prayer! When we pray for others, we can do nothing evil but only good for them. We simply place them in God's hands and then withdraw. When we do that, they don't even know that we have prayed for them, unless we happen to tell them. As James reminds us, “the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. So who is the greatest? It is Jesus who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He came not to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many! Jesus humbled Himself to become an embryo, a toddler, a teenager and a man for you. He had no sin but took all of our sin upon Himself, the sins of the whole world! He came to fulfill all of the law completely and perfectly. He came to suffer and die and rise again to life so that you might receive the greatness of His forgiveness, His life and His salvation and His glory in heaven for all eternity! It is all by grace through faith in Jesus Christ!---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. “The sinful heart is filled with “bitter jealousy and selfish ambition” (James 3:14), which causes hostility, quarrels and conflicts, even among those who are fellow members of the body of Christ. This should not be so! Rather, God “opposes the proud” with His Law, in order to humble them unto repentance; He “gives grace to the humble,” in order to exalt them by His Gospel of forgiveness (James 4:6–10). This true “wisdom from above” is found in the gentleness, mercy and peace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who humbled Himself and sacrificed Himself for the salvation of sinners (James 3:17). He was “like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter,” committing Himself to God, His Father, “who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind” (Jer. 11:19–20). Therefore, “after three days,” His Father exalted Him by raising Him from the dead (Mark 9:31). In Holy Baptism, He takes disciples of all ages into His arms like little children. In receiving Him through repentance and faith in His forgiveness of sins, they receive from His Father a share in the glory of His cross and resurrection (Mark 9:36–37).---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. James writes in our epistle lesson, “No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.” The tongue can bring joy or cause misery. Proverbs 18:21 puts it this way: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” The stakes are high. Your words can either speak life, or your words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down. In our Gospel reading for today, take note of how Jesus awakens everyone’s ears to hear as those who are taught so that they have tongues that “know how to sustain with a word him who is weary.”Support the show-----Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting. Those who teach the Word of God “will be judged with greater strictness” (James 3:1) because it is by the Word that saving faith is obtained, whereas false doctrine always threatens to destroy Christian faith and life. The tongue “boasts of great things,” whether for good or evil (James 3:5).In fallen man, “it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). But anyone who bridles his tongue with the Word of God, who “does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man” (James 3:2). It is Christ who opens His ear to the voice of His Father, so that, with “the tongue of those who are taught,” He is able to sustain the weary “with a word” (Is. 50:4–5). Entrusting Himself to His Father, even to death, He is not put to shame but is vindicated in His resurrection (Is. 50:6–9). By His faith and faithfulness, He casts out the “mute and deaf spirit” from us (Mark 9:25). He has compassion on us and helps us, so that we are not destroyed but cleansed from every evil and raised up from death to life (Mark 9:22–27).---------Visit our website: https://www.trinitysheboygan.org/Trinity Lutheran Church, School and Child Care have been "Making Known the Love of Christ" in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and throughout the world since 1853 as a congregation gathering around God's Word and Sacraments to receive forgiveness and life everlasting.
