“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain” (Rev. 5:12), who by His cross has conquered sin and death. Sermon: Jesus Makes Believers Out of Us

The disciples were scared. They didn’t know what to think or what to do. The women, Peter, and John had all seen the empty tomb. Yet, if Jesus had risen from the dead then where was He? The Jews were definitely out there, and they would be coming after them next. In addition, their sin in abandoning Jesus had caused their conscience to weigh heavy on them, and it condemned them. They had been robbed of their peace, but not by anything outside or inside of them as you might think. Peace isn’t taken from us by troubles nor is it given to us by a lack of troubles. What robs us of peace is unbelief. It’s a lack of faith. It’s the thought that the bad things that are happening around us and in us are more powerful than God. It’s the thought that God cannot or will not protect us from troubles, deliver us from them, or use them for His good, and ours. Unbelief robbed the disciples of peace. Jesus knew it, and that’s why He went to them. He went there to make believers out of them. Likewise, unbelief robs us of peace. It’s why He comes here, too, by His Spirit at work through His word. Bible Study: Jesus Makes Believers Out of Us

On the Lord’s Day, St. John the apostle was given a revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. He is the Living One, “the firstborn of the dead” (Rev. 1:5). He died for all people, and behold, He is alive forevermore! Therefore, He has “the keys of Death and Hades” (Rev. 1:18). For His death atoned for sin and conquered death, and in His resurrection, He opened the kingdom of heaven to us. The “sharp two- edged sword” of His mouth (Rev. 1:16) calls you to “believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,” that by such faith “you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). Bible Study: In Plain Sight

The Lord has promised to “create new heavens and a new earth” (Is. 65:17), in which His people shall abide in peace and joy. That new creation has begun in the bodily resurrection of Christ Jesus. All the baptized belong to that new creation. Reborn of water and the Holy Spirit, they are “the offspring of the blessed of the LORD” (Is. 65:23). The Lord rejoices and is glad in them; He hears and answers their prayers. For “if in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Cor. 15:19). But Christ Jesus has been raised, “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Cor. 15:20). We may be “perplexed about this” (Luke 24:4), perhaps even frightened and brought to our knees, because it seems like an “idle tale” (Luke 24:11). Sermon: Life Changes in a Moment

Things in life can change in a moment. And often do. They did, for you, when you were baptized. At that moment, the One who is always in control made you His son, His daughter, and said: Father, forgive him; forgive her. And: you will be with me in Paradise. At that moment, Jesus took you into His death and resurrection, to give you new life and hope. At that moment, Jesus took everything He has and everything He did and gave it to you. And He made you a promise. He said: That’s never going to change. I won’t take it back. You can refuse my gift. Leave me at the altar as a jilted Bridegroom in favor of your life of sin. But I will not ever take back my promises, my vows, to you. When you need mercy, I will be here for you. When you need forgiveness, I will be here for you. When you need life, I will be here for you. I gave my life for you, and I am still am giving my life to you. Here. Take it. Eat it and drink it. My Body and Blood. It’s here for you. I am here for you. Always.
